When to use the avatar ?
There is 2 types of avatar : Square and Circle.
Circle avatars are dedicated to people/user and can contains either their initials or a visual.
Regarding the square avatars, they can only include visual such as a logotype and should be use to represent an organization such as a partner/distributor.
When you need to represent an organization such as a partner

Circle avatars
Circle avatar are used to represent a user or it’s profil. It can either contains the user initials or a picture. When there is no picture, the initials should be display by default.
Square avatars
Square avatar are used to represent an organization such as a partner.
